Here is the story behind Louise Hay, best selling author of Heal Your Life and founder of Hay House publishing, the largest publisher of self help books.
Best known for her self-help books, Louise Hay is an American motivational author who has helped millions to understand and create what they want in their lives. She is also the founder of a publishing firm, Hay House, and non-profit organizations, the Louise L. Hay Charitable Fund and the Hay Foundation.
Louise Hay was born on October 8, 1926 in Los Angeles. Her childhood was marked by domestic violence, abuse and poverty. Her parents divorced when she was 18 months. She had to stay with her poor mother who later married a violent man.
At the age of five, Louise got terrible experience when a neighbor raped her. Her life became more traumatic when her stepfather started beating and abusing her sexually.
When she was 15, Louise dropped out of school and ran away from home to take menial jobs. She got pregnant at 16, then gave birth to a baby girl and put her up for adoption. She moved back home to stay with her mother who was then staying in Chicago.
After some years in Chicago, Louise went in New York City where she started working as a fashion model. She married an English businessman in 1954 who after 14 years left her for another woman.
Louise’s Turning Point to Help Other People
In 1970, Louise Hay joined the First Church of Religious Science. She got an opportunity to train on the New Thought and Positive Thinking philosophies and Transcendental Meditation. She became a workshop leader and speaker and started counseling clients, which became her full-time career.
Louise Hay took several years to compile a guide which explained the relationship between mind and physical illnesses. In the guide she taught people how positive thinking and self-love can heal physical ailments.
She used the guide to hold workshops and lectures throughout the US. In 1976, Louise published her first book, Heal Your Body, which contained a list of bodily ailments and their metaphysical causes.
In 1978, Louise Hay was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Instead of going for an operation, she decided to use her philosophical program of visualization, affirmations, psychotherapy and nutritional cleansing to cure her off the disease.
With help of a therapist, she used reflexology to do away with anger and negativity. She decided to love herself and forgive anyone who abused her. Six months later, Louise was healed of cancer without chemotherapy and surgery.
In 1980, Louise Hay moved to Southern California where she continued to share her experience with other people. She published her popular book, You Can Heal Your Life, in 1984.
In this book, she explains how ideas and beliefs can cause emotional and physical problems. She therefore teaches people how to use certain tools to change their thinking and lives. The book includes her favorable quotes that she uses in workshops to stress her teachings.
Due to her love for motivational writing, Louise Hay established a publishing firm, Hay House, to help her and other authors publish their works. The most recent publications of Louise include; Inner Wisdom, Love Your Body and Heal Your Body A to Z.
She has also helped Nick Ortner release his book The Tapping Solution which has become a New York Times best seller. Louise is currently empowering women and running her non-profit organizations while enjoying her home in San Diego.
