I believe there is always more than one solution to a problem. There are multiple ways to heal an illness or affliction: you can use a medical procedure, energy healing, or combine both to get the best of both worlds.
Whichever method you choose, it’s important to figure out what works for you. This is one of the best things about Tapping – you can experience it for yourself to know it really works.
You don’t need to spend a lot of time or money; all you have to do is follow simple steps to Tapping. It’s also good to know about the science behind it, especially if you are skeptical about this method.
Though Tapping or EFT is being used more and more both in the energy healing field and professional medical field, the body of science supporting it has only just begun. In this article, I want to share what I have learned about the science of Tapping, including how and why it works.
David Feinstein Explains the Science Behind Tapping Therapy
David Feinstein is an EFT expert, and he often opens the annual Tapping World Summit by introducing the science. He shares about a study done at Harvard Medical School that reveals what happens at the brain when stimulating acupressure points.
The stimulation of acupuncture points has been shown over the course of a ten-year research program at Harvard Medical School to rapidly reduce limbic system arousal (Fang, 2009)
In the study which uses fMRI technology, it’s shown that Tapping on your meridian points decreases arousal in the amygdala. As you know, whenever you are in a state of anxiety, your brain gets stuck in an ON position – which means your body is releasing chemicals that make you feel you are in mortal danger.
Tapping works to return your chemical levels to a natural balance through:
- Mentally recreating the trauma or trigger associated with your anxiety
- When you do this, you put the amygdala in threat response mode
- While in this mode, you do Tapping which sends electric signals on acupressure points that decreases the threat response mode
In other words: you still FEEL the emotion, but your physiology is no longer affected by it. You create a “new normal” where your performance is not affected by your emotions.
A perfect example for this is war veterans that suffer from PTSD. When they return to normal life, everyday sounds such as car tires bursting or other loud sounds can trigger their trauma of gunfire and explosions. By using Tapping, they can reduce their “threat response mode” (which is vital in war but unnecessary in normal civil life) and maintain control of their physiological reaction.
The Origin of EFT Therapy
The modern version of Emotional Freedom Technique (or popularly called Tapping) is based on the big breakthrough which came in 1979 by Roger Callahan, a psychologist studying applied kinesiology with John Goodheart Jr. and John Diamond.
Callahan was treating a female patient named Mary who had an extreme phobia of water. She was so afraid of water that she couldn’t live a normally functioning life and had frequent nightmares about it.
One day, after trying many anxiety reduction techniques, Dr. Callahan decided to try acupressure. He had been studying about the meridian points, and he instructed Mary to tap on a meridian point on her cheekbone to reduce a stomach pain she was complaining about. As she tapped, a miraculous thing happened – not only did her stomach pain go away, her fear of water also disappeared!
There was a pool outside of Dr. Callahan’s clinic, and Mary immediately ran to the pool side and started to splash around playing with the water for the first time in a long time.
Rescue Your Life with Tapping
This case was the first breakthrough in EFT Tapping therapy. Since this discovery, Dr. Callahan has worked on expanding and promoting the use of this method in various ways – both for modern medicine and in alternative healing modalities.
Gary Craig expanded on it even more (which turned Callahan’s original Thought Field Therapy into Emotional Freedom Technique), and then Nick Ortner popularized the “Tapping” method to a global scale with his Tapping Solution video, seminar and book series.
As an everyday man who faces life challenges, you and I both enjoy the benefits of “standing on the shoulder of giants”. Because of the research and experiments that these men and countless other EFT practitioners have done, millions of people around the world today have access to a method of healing that is not only safe, affordable but also highly effective!
“Tapping Helped Me Get Through the Trauma of Losing My Child”
Nick Ortner himself relied on Tapping therapy to help him with the stress he was feeling from nearly $100,000 of debt from his failing real estate business – all while going into more debt in order to produce the film Tapping Solution.
Jessica Ortner, Nick’s sister, has used Tapping to help her with weight issues she has been dealing with her whole life until eventually she started to lose weight and got into a fit shape – and now she is helping hundreds of women to do the same.
In all the books and seminars and charity events that Nick Ortner does, many people share their stories about how Tapping has helped them to deal with various issues – from normal everyday stress to life changing losses of loved ones.
It has helped Scarlett Lewis, a 44 year old mother and resident of Newton, Connecticut, to cope with the loss of her 6-year old son in the Newton shooting incident.
Tapping has helped me get through the trauma of losing my child. It’s helped me peel the layers of past traumas so I can focus on healing from this loss. What I love about Tapping is you can do it by yourself. It’s a great method of healing.
In my personal life, I am lucky to not have had to use Tapping for any terminal illness or heavy grief. I do use it to help me overcome my financial difficulties, until I was able to make as much money in one month as I previously did in one year.
Are You Using Tapping Therapy to Heal Your Anxiety?
The purpose of life is increase, which means that whenever you are sick, the psyche wants to heal to become healthier and happier. There is always a natural tendency to come up again after you fall down, and to clear unhealed wounds from the past.
Tapping is one tool to help you achieve the purpose of life. It brings the body into an energy balance, which can be measured through electric signals in the brain (proof that Tapping works). By releasing the electric blocks in your brain, you activate your body’s natural healing abilities.
This is how Tapping can help you heal without having to use medical procedures if you don’t want to. You can find more ways to heal illnesses and even non-physical issues, particularly money anxiety in our free five-day email course:
